Email verification result codes
Every verification by Easy Email Verification, in the free email checker, in a bulk list or through the API, returns a result, a reason and a set of risk signals. This page explains each value and what to do with the address.
Send to valid addresses with safe_to_send: true. Remove invalid ones. Keep unknown ones apart and verify them again later; unknown results do not use a credit.
Results
Every response has one of three results.
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
valid | The receiving mail server confirmed that the mailbox exists and accepts mail. |
invalid | The address cannot receive mail. Sending to it will bounce. |
unknown | The verification could not reach a reliable answer. The address is neither confirmed nor rejected. |
Reasons
The reason field says which check produced the result.
| Code | Result | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
accepted_email | valid | The receiving SMTP server accepted the mailbox. |
rejected_email | invalid | The domain is real and receives mail, but its server said this mailbox does not exist. |
invalid_email | invalid | The address is not written as a valid email address. |
invalid_domain | invalid | The domain after the @ does not exist. |
no_mx_record | invalid | The domain exists, but it has no MX record, so it is not set up to receive email. |
invalid_mx_record | invalid | The domain has an MX record, but it does not lead to a working mail server. |
unavailable_smtp | invalid | The domain's mail server is not available to receive mail for this address. |
timeout | unknown | The mail server did not answer the verification in time. |
no_connect | unknown | EEV could not open a connection to the domain's mail server. No credit is used. |
temporarily_blocked | unknown | The mail server greylisted the check: it asked to try again later. |
exceeded_storage | unknown | The mailbox exists, but it is full and cannot receive mail right now. |
unexpected_error | unknown | Something failed during the verification, so no reliable answer was reached. |
Risk signals
True/false fields that can come with any result. They are signals, not verdicts.
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
accept_all | The domain accepts mail for any address, so this specific mailbox cannot be confirmed. |
disposable | The address belongs to a known temporary (disposable) email service. |
role | The address belongs to a function or team (info@, sales@, support@), not to one person. |
safe_to_send and did_you_mean
safe_to_send is the overall recommendation: true only when the address is valid and no risk signal advises against it. It is false for invalid and unknown results, and also for valid addresses on catch-all domains and for disposable addresses.
did_you_mean suggests a corrected address when the domain looks like a typo of a popular one (gmial.com → gmail.com). It is an empty string when there is no suggestion.
New reason values may be added over time. Treat a reason you do not recognize as inconclusive, like unknown.
