unexpected_error: the verification could not finish
unknown reason: unexpected_error
Something failed during the verification, so no reliable answer was reached.
What it means
The SMTP check did not complete because of an error that does not fit the other reasons, such as a connection dropped in the middle of the conversation. EEV already retries the check once before it returns this reason.
Why it happens
- A connection closed by the mail server during the check.
- An answer from the server that does not follow the SMTP standard.
What to do
- Verify the address again later.
- If the same address keeps returning
unexpected_error, treat it as unknown and decide by your risk policy. If it happens to many unrelated domains, write to support@easyemailverification.com.
