invalid_email: the address syntax is not valid
invalid reason: invalid_email
The address is not written as a valid email address.
What it means
The address failed the syntax check, so no DNS or SMTP check was needed. It cannot receive mail as written.
Why it happens
- Missing or doubled @ (
jane.example.com,jane@@example.com). - Spaces, commas or quotes copied from a spreadsheet (
jane doe@example.com,jane@example.com,). - A domain without a dot or ending with one (
jane@example,jane@example.). - Two dots in a row, or a dot at the start or end of the part before the @.
What to do
- Look at the address before deleting it: many syntax errors come from exporting a file (an extra comma, a space, two addresses in one cell) and are easy to fix.
- In a form, catch it on the page with a simple format check and ask the person to correct it.
