What is double opt-in and when should you use it?

Double opt-in is a signup process where the new subscriber must confirm the address by clicking a link sent to it before being added to the list.

With single opt-in, the address goes into the list as soon as the form is sent. With double opt-in, it only goes in after the confirmation click, which proves that the owner of the mailbox wanted to subscribe.

It keeps typos, fake addresses and spam traps out, and it gives you a record of consent. The cost is that some real people never click the confirmation, so the list grows more slowly.

Real-time verification at the form is a complement, not a replacement: it catches typos and invalid addresses before the confirmation email is even sent, so fewer confirmations bounce or go unanswered.

With Easy Email Verification

The email verification widget checks the address while the visitor is still on the form, and the API does the same on your server.
